This session presents an in-depth overview of our philosophy as well as explicit training instruction for spelling at SBSUM. Rather than memorizing a finite list of sight words, students are taught foundational phonetics and spelling rules that will equip them to independently decipher and spell every word in the English language. Come and learn about the curriculum we use in the spelling years, and how to instruct your student in our materials at home. Video Recording

This session will cover the overarching the goals of the later Grammar years (3rd and 4th grade). Parents will review the Progression book targets for 3rd and 4th grade which encompasses the main learning objectives for this stage. The ancient progymnasmata is introduced in 4th grade as students discover the joy of learning to understand, revise and create effective Fables following the great writers before their time. Greek is taught in 1st and 2nd grade as a foundational to the English language. Latin is introduced in 3rd and 4th grades as an additional support for helping students to understand the way the English language has been constructed, which will aid them in mastery for the years in English language arts for years to come.
